Non Hodgkins Lymphoma

Had it? Have it? Surviving survivors should post about experiences.

First diagnosed at age 15, and then at age 24 found to be recurrent, I have enjoyed the last few years of no needles.
Now, I'm 32 and I'm enjoying my life and filling all of the small compartments of time with fun.

    Ok... HAD it! :-)
When I was 21. Actually, about 2 or 3 weeks after I turned 21 I got really really sick. Pardon the grossness, (is that a word!?!) :-) I was throwing up all day, everyday. Soooo, after about a month and a half of that.... oh and the fact that I was DISAPPEARING, I ended up having exploratory surgery and they found a tumor about the size of a grinder wrapped around my digestive system. Which explains the constant losing of cookies.
Went through a few months of extreme Chemo! Nearly lost my life a couple times. Had two spinal taps and bone marrow biopsy. THOSE WERE FUN!!! Lost EVERY last freakin' hair on my body! (yes, every one) Ended up in the hospital on Christmas day with a fever OVER 105 degrees... and yet... LIVED to tell about it! And I haven't even scratched the surface. :-)
But here I am, been in remission for 7 years and loving the freakin' sh_t out of life! People think it bothers me to talk about it. On the contrary, I LOVE talking about it. It helps me to remember how lucky I am and the fact that I am a survivor! I have dealt with a LOT in my short life... I am without-a-doubt a survivor! And I am ALL about having fun!

yep. It's easy to slip into the daily grind of life and forget how lucky you are to still be here breathing and living...
I tend to live from day to day, but that experience and a few others are the ones I keep in my thoughts every single day.

I'm a hodgkins survivor, but my brother in law is fighting non-hodgkins.

He needs a second stem cell transplant due to myelodysplasia. I'm just learning about this condition, so if anyone can help me learn more please do.

        Thank you all

        Eric

I am Hodgkins survivor as well. Diagnosed at 2 months after my 15th birthday. I was llosing weight, and thought it was just from being a dancer. But then I discovered a lump in my neck. And yep, Hodgkins, the funny thing is, is that I was living in a town with maybe 11000 people in it, and 3 kids including me, all the same age got within a year of eachother. We think it was viryl. Two other kids had different types of cancers as well. Creepy. But I started dancing again 6 months after chemo and radiation. I got into a Performing arts highschool, and am still dancing to the point where I'm considered a profesional and an athlete, ballet, modern, etc. But the thing is, after chemo, I have had health issues and battles non stop. I wake up feeling like I got hit by a truck, my immune system and stamina are shot, and I'm always exhausted, not just from dance. I should be in the best shape of my life. But my teachers think I'm flakey becasue I'm so sick, but they have no idea how hard I work, it's the hardest thing in the world to me. But I love it, it's my life and passion. Did anyone else have health problems after? The doctors say it's in my head, they have no idea. It's nice to see people who actualy understand chemo and cancer, I haven't been able to really process yet. People just can't understand unless they've been through it. It practicly ruined my career, that's the main thing that I can't forgive.

I have a friend who had non-hodgkins, but she just did spiritual work and herbal heeling and such. It maf=de it go away. I willed the cancer out of my body, I think the thing to focus on is that you will survive it, mind over matter, the body doesn't stand a chance. I'll think good healing thoughts for all of you, and your brother-in-law, I'm glad he has support.

Thank you for letting me rant, I needed that. I never have before. Of course there's much more...but for later. :)

          Much health,
          Becca
